Chicago Elections Reaction (Part 2)
How did those Police District Council elections go? These councils will have little formal power beyond electing another group of people who will nominate candidates from whom the mayor selects a police commissioner, but they will be somewhat empowered to be advocates for the community in this area, and could be obstructionist against reform if the wrong people are elected. So let's see how it went:
Only the districts with more than 3 candidates are shown. Results still may change as mail-in ballots come in.
A - 13 winners
B - 15 winners
C - 2 winners
Not enough info - 7 winners
F - 13 winners
FF - 1 winner
(More about ratings here)
At best 15 of these seats could have been won by a higher-rated candidate.
At worst 20 of these seats could have been won by a lower-rated candidate...
So, it could have been both a lot better and a lot worse.
Districts with 3 or less candidates (not included here) could elect up to 15 more candidates in addition to the below but it seems likely there is a pro-reform majority when everything is settled.
